Chimney Caps

The need and use for chimney caps are to often overlooked, in most cases the finish top of a chimney consist of sloped cement joined to red clay flue or a galvanized steel piping, which when heated expands at a different rate then the surrounding concrete. When this happens is can result in cracking of the cement which then leads to water penetration which combined with freezing temperatures can cause major damage and further water penetration. We have seen cases that are less then 10 years old that have sustained major ice and water damage. The on going water and ice penetration will eventually cause so much damage that the chimney will require an expensive re-build and some cases could be a serious safety hazard.

Chimney caps serve several purposes
